I say go for it because there are some really delicious shakes on the market and you can make them very easily.
Having said that we all know that anything over and over gets boring. Protein shakes are no different. If you are taking your protein shakes two or even three times a day it can become a real pain and you may even start talking yourself out of doing it. Here is a better idea. Grab your blender.
Tip number one is be sure what you add to your protein shake is not defeating the purpose of your diet. You do not want to work out hard. lose weight, and then gain it back in the drink you have just made for yourself. Forget about peanut butter, chocolate, and things like that.
Another tip is think natural in anything you add to your shake. Even natural peanut butter is better than regular if you really like the taste of peanut butter. Use fresh fruit which can help give you the carbs you need for fuel for your body. Other things to consider. Think of how you might create a unique flavor. You can try things like cinnamon, vanilla, honey, coconut milk, etc. Once you get the hang of this you will see the possibilities are endless.
Think about ingredients that will increase the protein in your shake. Nuts, egg white, whey powder and such can add flavor as well as make the shake seem thicker. Start out making your shake thick and adjust it accordingly to your taste. Many people do not like runny shakes, but drinking it with a spoon isn’t the best either.
Not everyone taking protein shakes are trying to gain weight. Some of you may be trying to lose weight. Therefore you need to watch the nutritional information to make sure you are not getting to many calories.
Blending your protein shakes is very easy. Just pay attention to how you add them to the blender before you are mixing them up. Add you liquids first, followed by the protein items, and then the extras such as the nuts or egg whites. Ice cubes always make the shakes seem more refreshing.
One last thing. You can ask around at the gym and share your ideas with each other. There are so many different ways to make a protein shake you are only limited by your imagination.
