If you have not heard of the ABA this is the article for you. Here is some basic information on the ABA.
The ABA was formed in 1989 and has been dedicated to serving those in the amateur bodybuilding world. The ABA has been chosen by the natural bodybuilders of the world as the leader of natural competitiveness. There is currently 5,000 athletes registered in bodybuilding in the association and about 95% of them are from the US. The ABA has been recognized in many national fitness publications such as Muscular Development, Ironman, MuscleMag Internatioonal, and television shows such as MTV Sports, ESPN, Monel Williams, and many local cable networks.
If you are looking to become a member of the ABA there are two divisions, the novice, or beginner division, and the open, or unlimited division. Those divisions are then broken up into 4 classes for men and 3 for women. The classes are then further broken down to heights. The men’s classes heights are 5′7″ and under, 5′7″ to 5′9″, 5′9″ to 5′11″, and 5′11″ and above. The women’s classes heights are 5′2″ and under, 5′2″ to 5′5″, and 5′5″ and above. You are automatically placed in the novice division when you join the ABA and must win the overall title in a contest in the novice division to move up to the open division.
When registering to join the ABA you will receive a free T-shirt after you pay the $35 membership fee. The membership fee is good for one year of the date you joined. Another organization, PNBA, or the Professional Natural Bodybuilding Association, charges a $100 membership fee that expires on the last day of the year.
The ABA has given many different awards out over the years. Athletes have requested 5′, 7′, and 10′ trophies, broad swords, embroidered jackets, championship belts, and $1,000 solid gold rings. The ABA Solid Gold Championship Rings has your name and “Natural ABA Champion” engraved on it. However, for you to qualify for this ring you must have competed in at least 2 shows in the ABA during the current year to qualify for the ring.
